A Child-Led Approach
A child-led approach in a nature and play-based early childhood program empowers children to drive their own learning experiences. This means giving them the freedom to explore nature at their own pace, choose activities based on their interests, and engage in open-ended play with natural materials. Educators observe and document children's interests, adapting learning experiences accordingly. This approach respects children's autonomy, supports inquiry-based learning, and fosters deep engagement and motivation, making it developmentally appropriate by nurturing independence, curiosity, and individual differences.
What is Emergent Curriculum?
In a nature and play-based program, emergent curriculum refers to a teaching approach that takes cues from the interests, experiences, and inquiries of the children themselves. Rather than following a predetermined curriculum, educators observe and engage with children's play and exploration in nature to guide learning experiences.
Emergent curriculum in this context recognizes that children's interests and interactions with the natural world serve as valuable springboards for learning. Educators observe patterns, questions, and discoveries that arise during play and then tailor activities, discussions, and projects to build upon these emergent themes. This approach prioritizes flexibility, creativity, and responsiveness to the ever-changing interests and needs of the children, fostering deep engagement and meaningful learning experiences within the natural environment.

Nature & Play-Based Learning
A child-led approach in a nature and play-based early childhood program empowers children to take the lead in their learning experiences, with educators acting as facilitators rather than directors. In such a program, children are encouraged to explore, experiment, and make discoveries in the natural world at their own pace and according to their own interests.
